Civics 101

The league is offering “Civics 101”, an educational program open to all citizens of Fayetteville.  Many Leagues around the country have successfully sponsored “Civics 101” courses by focusing on the city council, county commissioners, school board, judges, and a final sum-up session.  The CCLWV will include a sixth session on the NC state legislature.

“Civics 101” is a series of six sessions that will better-acquaint citizens with the responsibilities of various local government entities.  The sessions will generally follow a format where faculty meet with participants for 45 minutes to brief them on the government body in question; then the class observes a live session of, for example, the Fayetteville City Council for an hour; then participants return to their classroom to discuss what they have observed.  The sixth and final session gives participants an opportunity to share what they have learned with each other and the press.
